Bitcoin Rebounds as Crypto Markets Recover After Binance Hack

Bitcoin rose approximately 1% to around $78,600 during the early hours of Monday in Asia, marking its third consecutive day of gains, as investors in the region resumed risk-taking following Friday’s decline in U.S. technology stocks. ZEC led the majors, climbing 3% to nearly $1,280. Ether and BNB each experienced an increase of nearly 2%, with ether trading just above $2,300 and BNB at approximately $713, while XRP and TRX saw a rise of about 1%. SOL lagged, barely moving at approximately $95, according to data. It is a more tranquil beginning to the week following Binance’s revelation of a $6.3 billion hack last week, marking the largest theft from a cryptocurrency exchange in history, which resulted in a decline in prices.

Bitcoin experienced a decline to approximately $77,600 late Sunday, but buyers quickly intervened, driving the price back above $78,500 within a few hours. Stock markets are experiencing a recovery as well. The Nasdaq 100 experienced a decline of 3.5% on Friday, marking its most significant drop since June, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, which monitors U.S.-listed chipmakers, fell by 7%. On Monday, futures on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 increased by a minimum of 0.4%. Benchmarks experienced an uptick in South Korea, Hong Kong, and Japan, while Chinese stocks saw gains following a report indicating that regulators are set to convene with banks and brokerages on Monday to deliberate on strategies to bolster the market. Brent crude declined by 3% to approximately $110 per barrel following a report indicating that President Donald Trump intends to allow more time for diplomacy with Iran before considering the resumption of strikes after the midterm elections on Tuesday.

Gold experienced an increase of approximately 1%, reaching around $3,910 per ounce, recovering from its lowest closing price in over a year observed on Friday. “We believe that given last week’s Fed commentary, macro pressures will continue to keep interest rates high, which will weigh on liquidity for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies over the next few months,” Jeff Mei said. “This week we’ll be watching closely to see if tech stocks will rebound or continue their decline from last week. A small rebound may indicate that we’ve already hit the bottom and could present a potential buying opportunity for Bitcoin, which is trading below the $80k mark,” Mei said.

The CLARITY Act establishes the framework for the regulation of cryptocurrency markets in the United States, delineating the responsibilities of various agencies concerning the oversight of specific tokens. Polls will conclude across the United States on Tuesday evening, leading to the dissemination of results during the Asian trading hours on Wednesday. “Additionally, US midterm elections this week are likely to have a major impact on markets. While the Democrats are against the CLARITY act, their party winning a majority in Congress could force the Iran conflict to an earlier end, lowering oil prices and inflationary pressures, causing stocks and crypto to rebound,” Mei added.
