Bitcoin Nears $80K Amid Fed Decisions and ETF Outflows

Bitcoin price traded close to $80,000 on Monday, following a decline of approximately 2% earlier in the session. The price has fallen below that level multiple times in recent days and has rebounded on each occasion. Selling pressure has been intensifying. Spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced approximately $635 million in outflows on October 22. A brief drop below $80,000 last week also triggered roughly $800 million in liquidations of long positions, or bets that prices would rise. The upcoming significant evaluation to monitor is the Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting, concluding on October 28. The Fed raised its target range to 3.75% to 4% in September, and its minutes indicated that another increase could occur by year-end.

Recent market odds indicate a preference for the Fed to maintain steady rates, although these odds have experienced some fluctuations. Market participants are closely monitoring Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s statements for indications regarding a potential interest rate increase in December. Higher interest rates generally divert capital from riskier assets, such as cryptocurrencies. Broadly speaking, a hold could maintain the bitcoin price within a range of approximately $80,000 to $88,000. A rate hike could drive it closer to the lower end of that range. Geopolitical tensions are exerting pressure on markets. Oil prices surpassed $100 a barrel in early September amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Increased energy prices contribute to inflationary pressures, thereby influencing the Federal Reserve’s policy decisions.

In the technology sector, Anthropic is said to be gearing up for an initial public offering that may place the valuation of the AI firm close to $965 billion. The timing has adjusted to the weeks leading up to the November midterm elections; however, a specific date remains unconfirmed. U.S. stocks experienced a modest increase on Monday as investors prepared for a week filled with significant earnings reports from major technology companies and the Federal Reserve’s decision regarding interest rates. The Nasdaq experienced an increase of 0.8%, while the S&P 500 saw a gain of 0.6%, and the Dow recorded a rise of 0.3%. Alphabet and Microsoft are set to report on Wednesday, with Amazon following on Thursday, as markets largely anticipate that the Federal Reserve will maintain current interest rates.

Stocks associated with AI experienced an uptick in value subsequent to Anthropic’s filing for an initial public offering. Tesla experienced a 6% increase, whereas Meta is preparing to secure as much as $95 billion for investments in artificial intelligence. As of the current moment, the price of bitcoin is at $80,215, reflecting a decline of nearly $4,000 or 4.75% over the month. Over the past month, prices have fluctuated between a peak of $86,806.95 and a trough of $79,397.76. Bitcoin price reached a high of over $86,000 in early October, subsequently declining to around $80,000 during the second week of the month. A brief rally around October 21 propelled it back toward $84,000; however, those gains dissipated within days. Trading volume over the past 24 hours has reached approximately $18.12 billion. Bitcoin price continues to trade significantly lower than its peak of $126,277.05.
