Bitcoin Slides Toward $80,000 as Crypto Sell-Off Sweeps Altcoins

Bitcoin’s negative price trajectory, which commenced following the rejection at $85,000 on Wednesday, persists, as the asset has declined to $80,400 earlier this morning. This downturn may be influenced by recent comments from Trump regarding the conflict with Iran. Most altcoins have mirrored this trend, with ETH declining further beneath $2,400, and XRP appearing to forfeit the vital $1.30 support level. NEAR, BTW, PUMP, WLD, and DOT have experienced further declines.

Following the significant fluctuations observed in the prior business week due to the publication of the CPI and PPI data, and BTC’s decline to below $80,000, the cryptocurrency made an attempt to recover swiftly, reaching above $82,000 over the weekend.  Then came a flash crash that brought it south by a grand on Saturday evening, before the bulls attempted to breach the $83,000 resistance on Monday. They encountered initial setbacks, leading to a decline in bitcoin to $81,000. A sudden uptick on Tuesday propelled it just above that threshold, followed by the bulls advancing it further on Wednesday, culminating in BTC reaching a two-week peak of nearly $85,000. However, this rally was short-lived, with the subsequent rejection occurring swiftly and with considerable intensity.

Initially, BTC experienced a decline to below $83,000; however, the bears asserted dominance over the market on Friday and Saturday morning, resulting in bitcoin reaching $80,400 for the first time in approximately ten days. Although BTC remains above 80,000 as of now, it is still down 1% for the day once more. Its market capitalisation has retraced to $1.620 trillion, yet its dominance over alternative assets remains robust at 60% on CMC. ETH has experienced a decline comparable to that of BTC and currently trades significantly under $2,400. Ripple’s native token has experienced a decline of more than 2%, currently trading below $1.30.

Recall that the asset approached $1.40 on Wednesday prior to the market-wide pullback. SOL is nearing a breach of the $100 threshold, whereas ZEC has plummeted beneath the $1,200 mark. Further losses are evident from XMR, XLM, LINK, RAIN, LTC, and NEAR. WLD stands out as the sole double-digit loser, whereas M has bucked the trend of the broader market with a notable 10% increase. The total cryptocurrency market capitalisation has decreased by more than 1% on a daily basis, currently standing at $2.7 trillion according to CMC.
