Bitcoin Enters October With Strong ETF Demand and Bullish Momentum

Bitcoin is entering October with notable momentum, renewed institutional demand, and a robust seasonal pattern supporting its trajectory. BTC concluded September at $83,563, significantly surpassing its estimated realised price of $54,000 and the 200-week moving average, which is approximately $66,000, as indicated by analyst. Around 71% of bitcoin supply was in profit at month-end. As of this writing, the leading cryptocurrency by market capitalisation is positioned close to a price of $85,000 on October 1, reflecting an increase thus far in this brief month. Between 2013 and 2025, bitcoin has recorded favourable returns in October for 10 out of 13 years, yielding average gains close to 19% and a median in the low-teens. That history has revived the well-known “Uptober” narrative. The more challenging inquiry pertains to whether present demand can transform seasonality into a prolonged upward trend.

Bitcoin also closed September above 82,500, a level traders had been monitoring as monthly resistance. Source indicated that a retest of that area as support could facilitate another trend continuation. Other analysts similarly characterised the market structure as bullish, while cautioning that BTC might initially decline to liquidate leveraged positions. Lacie Zhang identifies $82,000 as the critical downside threshold and $87,500 as the pivotal upside catalyst. “Seasonality alone is not an investment thesis,” Zhang stated, positioning her October base-case range between $78,000 and $95,000. A clean move above $87,500, she said, could open the path toward $95,000. A sustained break below $80,000 would undermine the bullish configuration. Institutional demand continues to represent the most compelling rationale for bullish sentiment. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs garnered $2.4 billion last week, marking their most successful week since October 2025. However, daily net inflows decelerated to $31 million on September 28.

Strategy also acquired an additional 1,665 BTC, increasing its total holdings to 847,666 BTC-a reserve valued at approximately $72 billion at this moment. Meanwhile, the leverage in derivatives markets has diminished. Binance perpetual funding continues to exhibit a positive trend, albeit not at extreme levels. Concurrently, bitcoin open interest has decreased approximately 16% from the previous week, now standing at $7.7 billion. That reduces some liquidation risk, though the 82,000-82,500 region remains an important downside cluster. The initial significant challenge presents itself promptly. September U.S. employment data is scheduled for release on Oct. 2, with the Consumer Price Index following on Oct. 14 and the Federal Reserve’s decision set for Oct. 28.

Gross Domestic Product and Personal Consumption Expenditures data will be available the next day. Zhang anticipates that macroeconomic releases will have a greater impact on bitcoin than crypto-specific factors this month, as inflation, employment, and interest-rate expectations may take precedence over seasonal trends. Currently, the conditions for bitcoin’s price movement appear to be distinctly favourable: maintaining a level at $82,000, surpassing $87,500, and subsequently, the $95,000 threshold becomes a topic of discussion. History tends to favour the month of October. The upcoming weeks will reveal whether buyers will also demonstrate their intentions.
