Bitcoin Dips Under $80,000 Amid Inflation Surge

On Thursday, Bitcoin’s price briefly fell below $80,000 in response to U.S. inflation data that exceeded expectations. The price of the largest cryptocurrency recently reached $81,028, having declined to a low of $79,805 on Thursday morning in New York. Over a 24-hour period, it has declined by just over 1% following a recovery. However, in the preceding week, it has declined by almost 3% in value. Data released Thursday by the Labour Department’s Bureau of Labour Statistics indicated that U.S. producer prices increased in September at the most rapid rate observed in over four years.

The figures were released a day following the unexpected rise in September’s Consumer Price Index. Bitcoin is experiencing news indicating that elevated prices are likely to persist in the largest economy globally, prompting traders to speculate that the Federal Reserve might maintain higher interest rates for an extended period. The Federal Reserve is set to determine its course of action regarding interest rates at the conclusion of this month. Bitcoin’s price has historically performed favourably in a low interest rate environment, as reductions in borrowing costs enable greater liquidity to be allocated toward purchasing the cryptocurrency.

However, the Federal Reserve has increased interest rates this year, with the central bank’s leader asserting that reducing inflation in the United States is its top priority. The largest cryptocurrency is presently approximately 36% beneath the peak of $126,080 it reached last October. Despite the recent decline this week, analysts have asserted that the asset has exited the bear market that characterised much of 2026, following a rally observed in August and September.
